Resumo: When talking about marriage in Western society, it is associated with the fact that this institution has always been seen as a way to get advantages between the families of future spouses and the woman was seen as the way to get it. In this relationship, women assumed a position of total submission to their husbands. After important events for history, such as French Revolution, and for national history, such as Porto Liberal Revolution, Portugal had to deal with new scenarios in different aspects, including the social one, in which social roles were rethought and the revolutionaries named the family as the basis of this new society that began to emerge at the end of the 18th century. As a result, men came to dominate not only the private but also the public sphere, while women were restricted to taking care of the house and children, but it is pertinent to emphasize that not all of them passively accepted this position. After French Revolution, some marriages began to be celebrated for love, which resulted in many family conflicts regarding these two types of marriage, and literature, through authors such as the Portuguese Camilo Castelo Branco, represented these events in many novels, among them As Três Irmãs e Estrelas Propícias, less revisited books by the Camillian critics. It is from this context of total male domination that this work intends to carefully study the representation of marriage from the aforementioned works through gender and socioeconomic issues, seeking to understand how these issues appear in Camillian texts, in addition to drawing a parallel with the eight hundred scenario

As a result, men came to dominate not only the private but also the public sphere, while women were restricted to taking care of the house and children, but it is pertinent to emphasize that not all of them passively accepted this position. It is from this context of total male domination that this work intends to carefully study the representation of marriage from the aforementioned works through gender and socioeconomic issues, seeking to understand how these issues appear in Camillian texts, in addition to drawing a parallel with the eight hundred scenarioFalar sobre o casamento na sociedade ocidental implica associá-lo ao fato de que essa instituição sempre foi vista como forma de obter vantagens entre as famílias dos futuros cônjuges, sendo a mulher utilizada como moeda de troca. Made available in DSpace on 2022-05-17T15:18:56Z (GMT).
