Resumo: Malignant neoplasms or cancer are increasingly topics that are important to the health care system, especially to occupational health. With the advent of earlier diagnosis technologies, as well as therapeutic protocols, these have allowed a considerable increase in the survival rate of people affected by those illnesses. Therefore, concerning the nursing workers, it is important to think about the return of these professionals and perform strategies to receive them properly. Thus, the main objective of the present study is to investigate the facilitating and hindering factors for the maintenance of work activities and the return to work after the therapeutic protocol for cancer in nursing workers. Then, were stipulated the following specific objectives: To describe the socioeconomic, clinical and labor profile of nursing workers who were diagnosed and underwent cancer treatment; to identify facilitating and hindering factors of return to work reported by these workers; to evaluate the work situation using work capacity, fatigue, and quality of life indicators. The present study is a descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative approach and was conducted with nursing workers from two public hospitals located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The eligible professionals were nursing workers who were diagnosed and underwent or had been undergoing cancer treatment for at least two years. Data collection techniques used were a sociodemographic survey form, the Work Ability Index (WAI) instrument and the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - General (FACIT-G) questionnaire. Subsequently, the data were grouped and categorized in Excel software, version 13 and analyzed by Statistical Packages Social Science (SPSS) software, version 20.0. Most of the 11 participants were nursing technicians (54.6%), female (81.9%), between 51 and 60 years (63.6%). Pain was the main hindrance to return to work (81.9%). Their head and co-workers support (100%), and also family members (54.6%) were the main facilitating factors. Personal assessment with excellent work ability (45.5%) was demonstrated by the WAI, and a better quality of life (54.6%) measured by the FACIT-G, confirms that (72.7%) of workers return to work activities after medical discharge. Therefore, the most commonly treatment-related signs and symptoms hinder professional performances. On the other hand, family support, co-workers and management, and suitability of work activity are presented as facilitators. Participants had shown a better work ability demonstrated by WAI as well as better quality of life measured by FACIT-G, confirming adequate conditions to return to their labor activities after discharge. The results contribute to a differentiated look at the workers' health sector identifying factors that contribute to workers' return, thus knowing the factors that hinder the workers' return to work. Although there is no management about the physiological factors that prevent the return to work, it is possible to create mechanisms for the management of external factors.

Although there is no management about the physiological factors that prevent the return to work, it is possible to create mechanisms for the management of external factors. Submitted by Diana CB/B (dianaamadosantos@gmail.com) on 2022-08-31T19:56:30Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Ana Paula Rocha Ildefonso - 2020 - Completa.pdf: 2541177 bytes, checksum: 8cef0001a3697df0a951b9fd0fcfc09e (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2022-08-31T19:56:30Z (GMT).
