This research, contributing to studies in Brazilian Literature, shows the correlation between Literature and self-reflection. An ethical problem found throughout the novel The apple in the dark (1961), written Clarice Lispector, and that in this dissertation is object of research. Thus, Clarice Lispector again exemplifies, through the character Martim, that the ethical being never tires of presenting itself. The nuclear reflection of this novel is the question of the creation of the ethical field problematized from the relation with itself, as a practice of itself: a care of itself. The modes of relation of the character with itself in its process of production of truths (in the games of truth) are investigated. These procedures are used by the protagonist in his process of producing truths about himself (with the practice of parrésia). For us, these reflective forms of self-government, freedom, and veridication define ethics in the novel.
