Resumo: The present study has the Piauí school press as its main topic. The sampling was composed by newspapers and magazines produced by schools and organisms for students’ representation in the period between 1930 and 1948. The interest of the author on this theme drift of a sort of originality, since this work deals with a kind of problem still unexplored in the historiography of the State Education field, what reveals, aspects of the history of education, local traditions and how investment is created in relation to these types of sources. The chronological cut was defined taking into consideration the sources found for the research. Thus, the starting period of analysis corresponds to the year of publication of the newspaper A Luz – edited by the students of Liceu Municipal Florianense” in the city of Floriano - PI, from 1930 on. Yet the final period of analysis was defined by the publication of the newspaper O Renascimento, which was produced by the Parnaiba Student Center, from Parnaíba, with the editions analyzed up to 1948. This research aimed in investigating the process of composition of the school press in Piauí, focusing on the analysis of its statements as a strategy for the formation of students, in the period in question. The research was guided by the following questions: what led students and schools to produce newspapers and magazines in State? How were these materials organized? Which topics were privileged by those who were in charge of producing school journalism? How did this type of material helped to compose reflections about the history of local education? How to handle and operate with this specific type of documentation? From a theoretical-methodological point, this study is supported by propositions of the Cultural History, whose approaches have contributed to expand the fields and possibilities of research, methods and tools towards the analysis of periodical publications, which has been shown to be a bonafide source and way to understand aspects of the educational context of the past. The analysis of the school newspapers and magazines produced in the cities of Teresina, Floriano and Parnaiba, was carried out considering a double dimension: the materials were at the same time objects and sources for the research. The work was complemented with other material that were being added during the research path, including: intervenors reports, local and national newspapers, statistics, images, biographies, books, articles, dissertations and thesis. Based on this documental corpus, I analyzed the sociocultural and educational context of the period under study, exploring how the processes of local development could be related to the expansion of the school network through the availability of buildings, professional and pedagogical structures, which would guarantee a proper functioning to them. The results indicate that newspapers were part of a set of cultural practices in schools and that the intensification of their production was a result of the increasing debates and educational propositions that were in evidence in that period, based on the consulted documents. In this way, this research attests the presence and the participation of educational institutions and student organizations in the construction of informative medias related to various activities, be it, schooling, politics or advertisements. So, this research presents alternatives to discuss the possibilities and the limits regarding to the student protagonism, identified by the examination of some found particular traces that circulated within distinct projects and also, showed specific strategic uses that aimed to form the scholarly youth in the schools and cities in which these periodicals circulated.

O interesse pelo tema deriva de uma espécie de originalidade, já que se trata de problemática ainda pouco explorada na historiografia da educação no Estado, indício, por sua vez, do funcionamento do campo da história da educação, das tradições locais e do pouco investimento e interesse em relação a esse tipo de fonte. O recorte cronológico foi definido considerando as fontes mobilizadas na pesquisa. Assim, o marco inicial corresponde à publicação do jornal A Luz – editado pelos alunos do Liceu Municipal Florianense, na cidade de Floriano – PI, a partir de 1930. Já o marco final foi definido em razão do jornal Renascimento, produzido pelo Centro Estudantal Parnaibano, de Parnaíba, com edições analisadas até 1948. O objetivo da pesquisa incidiu em investigar o processo de composição da imprensa escolar no Piauí focalizando na análise dos seus enunciados como estratégia de formação dos estudantes, no período em questão. A pesquisa foi norteada pelas seguintes indagações: o que levou estudantes e escolas a produzirem jornais e revistas no Estado? Como este material foi organizado? Que agenda foi privilegiada pelos responsáveis pelo periodismo escolar? De que modo este tipo de material ajuda a compor as reflexões a respeito da história da educação local? Como tratar e operar com esse tipo específico de documentação? Do ponto de vista teórico-metodológico, o estudo se encontra amparado nas postulações da História Cultural, cujas abordagens têm contribuído para ampliar os campos e possibilidades de pesquisa, métodos e fontes, em que as publicações seriadas têm se apresentado como um campo vasto para indicar meios de se compreender aspectos de contextos educacionais do passado. A operação de análise dos jornais e revistas escolares produzidos nas cidades de Teresina, Floriano e Parnaíba foi desenvolvida a partir de uma dupla dimensão: como objeto e fontes da pesquisa. O trabalho foi complementado com outras fontes acionadas ao longo da pesquisa, entre as quais: relatórios de interventores, periódicos locais e nacionais, estatísticas, imagens, biografias, livros, artigos, dissertações e teses. Por meio desse corpus documental, analisa-se o contexto sociocultural e educacional do período em estudo, discutindo o processo de desenvolvimento local e a expansão da rede escolar por intermédio da implementação de estruturas físicas, profissional e pedagógicas adequadas ao seu bom funcionamento. Os resultados alcançados indiciam que os periódicos integravam um conjunto de práticas culturais das escolas e a sua produção foi intensificada em decorrência dos debates e propostas educacionais evidenciadas no período e na documentação consultada. Deste modo, a pesquisa demonstra a presença e a participação de estabelecimentos de ensino e organizações estudantis na construção de veículos informativos de diversas atividades associadas à escolarização, política e propagandas. From a theoretical-methodological point, this study is supported by propositions of the Cultural History, whose approaches have contributed to expand the fields and possibilities of research, methods and tools towards the analysis of periodical publications, which has been shown to be a bonafide source and way to understand aspects of the educational context of the past. The analysis of the school newspapers and magazines produced in the cities of Teresina, Floriano and Parnaiba, was carried out considering a double dimension: the materials were at the same time objects and sources for the research. The work was complemented with other material that were being added during the research path, including: intervenors reports, local and national newspapers, statistics, images, biographies, books, articles, dissertations and thesis. Based on this documental corpus, I analyzed the sociocultural and educational context of the period under study, exploring how the processes of local development could be related to the expansion of the school network through the availability of buildings, professional and pedagogical structures, which would guarantee a proper functioning to them. The results indicate that newspapers were part of a set of cultural practices in schools and that the intensification of their production was a result of the increasing debates and educational propositions that were in evidence in that period, based on the consulted documents. In this way, this research attests the presence and the participation of educational institutions and student organizations in the construction of informative medias related to various activities, be it, schooling, politics or advertisements. So, this research presents alternatives to discuss the possibilities and the limits regarding to the student protagonism, identified by the examination of some found particular traces that circulated within distinct projects and also, showed specific strategic uses that aimed to form the scholarly youth in the schools and cities in which these periodicals circulated.
