Resumo: | This paper proposes to examine the forest as an area of conflict between environmental protection and cultural practices (religious) that take place at the S Curve , external strategic area of the Tijuca National Park, a conservation unit, located in the Rio de Janeiro city. It is an analytical and conceptual work, with the following purposes: to map the most important environmental legislation in force and applicable to the issue, at an international and national levels, as an analytical tool; to rescue the environmental history of Tijuca Forest permeating the meaning of the forest in the environmental and cultural spheres; and to examine the spatiality of S Curve . Therefore, with the support of bibliographic, documentary and field research between 2013 and 2015, there is the analysis of man, culture and nature, and their space and time interrelationships, having as a guiding principle: diversity, as central points: place and sanctuary territory, and as complementar points: multidisciplinary concepts and definitions. From the above analysis, it explores the dichotomy between man's relationship with nature and between the relationship of culture - as a product of human action - with nature; therefore, it is inferred that the conflict is apparent, created in time and space for the individual and collective interpretations. Similarly, it peers into the forest and the intersection between its symbolism and its environmental history to then draw up the path of affection in geographic space. From a reflection and correlation with affectivity theory of Spinoza, it is thought in a new possibility to approach and understanding of the concept of place (TUAN) dialoguing with sanctuary territory (CORREA, AM), loaded geo-symbols (BONNEMAISON) important factors in building forest as a place of environmental and cultural protection. It concludes from the perspective of cultural geography that human needs with respect to the nature and culture are not different or exclusive; on the contrary, they show up as convergent and complementary and they can coexist in a balanced and harmonious way. The forest appears as a symbol of appeasement and protection of nature and culture. That study also serves to support the development of public policies in various locations in Brazil, since it transcends the application at a local level and can be applied to other areas of apparent conflict between environmental protection and cultural practices, not just religious |

No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao completa Izabel Kloske 2016.pdf: 2259371 bytes, checksum: 509c3d5156322ffa1bf9911aecc4544d (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-07T00:04:33Z (GMT).
