The present work presents a new proposal of literacy different from the practices of literature teaching and interpretation of conventional texts found in curriculum and manuals of Portuguese language of elementary education. Often, such pedagogical guides treat literature - especially the poem genre, the focus of this work - in a secondary way, without its wealth as art of the word, its artistic expression and esthetic being considered. In this dissertation, activities are proposed to read poems with the themes gender and sexuality, in an attempt to combine two possibilities: the pleasurable experience of reading the works and the reflection on prejudices and ideas rooted. Challenging project: to work poems in a way that elicits through the practice of reading, the improvement of critical sense, attention and respect for love-sexual rights as fundamental human rights and the enjoyment of the poetic text. The theoretical bases combined with the observation in classes of reading of poems allowed the construction of a guiding hypothesis that states that for to arouse interest in poetry, one must take into account the sociocultural reality of the students, attending to their discourses. Our hypotheses lead to the main objective that is to contribute to a better treatment of the poem as an important textual genre in the contents of the Portuguese Language in Elementary School, so that the act of reading and the contact with poetry are not something distant, relegated to cultural events, but effective as a daily practice, providing, above all, the pleasure of reading.
