This thesis relies on the narrative research methodology and aims to analyze the existence of the protagonism of lesbian identity in the self-proclaimed sapabonde, a group of high school students of a public school in the city of Niterói from 2016 to 2018. Based on narratives provided by these students, as well as other LGBTI+ students and school staff, I observed that partnership and resistance relationships forged within the sapabonde group, in addition to their previous liberating experiences, allowed them to develop strategies to withstand silencing and controlling actions from authority figures. These strategies led them to claim their rights and give visibility to the lesbian identity within school walls. Although the sapabonde group has been losing political strength since 2019, it seems that some of those strategies still remain. Along with narratives of gay and non-binary students, I determined how harmful the creation of hegemonic models of masculinity is. Such models are established in opposition to homosexuality and the female identity and demand constant surveillance to exist. In the researched context, that surveillance can be easily noticed in the gender normative processes and homophobic insults that these students endure. I also verified the importance of family support and the fight against social exclusion, stigmatization and discrimination in the building of LGBTI+ students’ identities.
