Resumo: Specimen of human gingiva was evaluated through histochemistry and imuno histochemistry method, removed after periodontal surgery with prothetic purpose, from 10 individual among 18 and 60 years old, to assess the elastic fibers system in this tissue. It was demonstrate the presence of the three types of elastic fibers system, oxytalan, elaunin and elastic fibers, as follows: (1) the oxytalan fibers form a network ofthin fibers next to basement membrane in the papilar area Of the gingival connective tissue; (2) the elaunin fibers are in contact with the oxytalan fibers, in the papilar and subpapilar areas, following the bundle Of collagen fibers; (3) the elastic fibers are observed in small amount, disperse through the deeper gingival connective tissue and around the blood vessel
