Resumo: This thesis is about the official institutions of the samba schools between the years of 1935 and 1953. Presenting these institutions pursues to identify and understand the form ative processes of the carnival from the samba schools, understanding this space as a place of power disputes and construction of popular culture. It is verified the institutionalization of the practices of the samba schools, their performances and aesthetics are directly related to the tensions and negotiations of their legitimating institutions with the promoters of the folia carioca. This work seeks to direct a new look at the historical period cited, removing from the samba schools the protagonism in the construction of the carnival and inserting the institution in this field of texts and practices of the hybrid carnival, thus allowing a new look on the period of formatting of the samba schools as elements of prominence in the national carnival culture

Apresentando essas instituições procura-se identificar e compreender os processos formadores do carnaval das escolas de samba entendo este espaço como local de disputas de poder e construção da cultura popular. Verifica-se que a institucionalização das práticas das escolas de samba, suas performances e estéticas estão diretamente relacionadas às tensões e negociações de suas instituições legitimadoras com os promotores da folia carioca.
