The main purpose of this monograph is to realize an exam over the sermon corpus of the Portuguese Jesuit Antônio Vieira, by the instruments that symbolize the enabling forces of the discourse in the seventeenth century: the rhetoric and poetics. Stem from mapping the notion of allegory, both in pagan and medieval context, we will reach a glimpse of this concept recurrently explored in the rhetorical and poetic writings of sixteenth and seventeenth centuries' writers. We intend to analyze in this way in order to balance the shades that give tones to the different phases of the allegoric conception of the Discourse in Antiquity during the Counter-Reformation time. For this purpose, equally, we will examine the operability of the concept; so that it can be possible, in this way, learn how the author institutes a so-called "imagery rhetoric". This imagery shapes and gives substance to another concept, the "plastic mystics, a ground in which both political and theological reasons active in the Jesuit opera would merge and agree; on the other hand, this wouldn't ignore the rhetoric as discourse institutions that shape the preach manifestations of Antonio Vieira. We will not silence, however, a crucial point in the driving force of the whole question. This consists in the fact that, in any moment, Vieira's preach, based on the plastic mystics, rests on an artistic glorification, but as a discursive program operating the Jesuitical participation in the political and theological chess of his time. In the same way, it acts as an oratorical part over the biblical hermeneutics, which explores the iconicity of the discourse to distill figurative senses of theological and mystic nature by the fractured sign since the Adamic fall
