The research aims to understand the historical trajectory of the Ary Parreiras School Group, highlighting its role in the schooling of children in the city of Laje do Muriaé, Municipality of the State of Rio de Janeiro, from 1934 to 1938. To explore the place assumed by the institution in the educational scenario of the city, we intend to reflect on the model of School Groups that, in large urban centers such as São Paulo (1893), Rio de Janeiro (1895) and Minas Gerais (1906) capitals, it was constituted as a parameter chosen for approaching the assumptions defended by republicans and for prioritising the rationalization of work and the reorganization of school time and space.In this sense, we seek to reflect on the relationship of this model with the creation of school groups in cities in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, specifically in Laje do Muriaé. The methodology employed prioritises the analysis of documents such as official diaries, minutes, diaries, newspapers made by students, enrollment books, among other historical sources. The research is mainly supported by contributions from Le Goff (1984), Burke (2008), Ginzburg (2001, 2007), Chartier (1994, 2002, 2009), Certeau (2007), Faria Filho (2000, 2007), Camara (2006, 2010, 2013), Souza (1998, 2006), Schueler (2009, 2010), Magaldi (2010), Vidal (2003, 2006, 2008), Veiga (2000, 2003, 2005), among others.
