Resumo: This study, conducted based on bibliographic research and field activity, revisits issues of schooling of young people from the periphery, in the daily life of a school in the periphery, in the metropolitan region of RJ/Baixada Fluminense, addressing the implications of cultures, Brazilian educational policy and the processes of social vulnerability, exclusion and stigma for an educational practice in the contemporary world. The author addresses conceptual questions about youth, cultures, social exclusion, urban periphery and fosters the debate about the relevance of investigating the ways of thinking the meanings of schooling for popular young people and their teachers in a school in the periphery, reflects on the conceptions presented by young people and their teachers on the relationship between youth and school, defending the offer of a pedagogical project that is the protagonist in the formation and emancipation of youth installed in In/Exclusion borders.
