Narrativas e disputa de sentidos na mídia televisiva contemporânea: quem foi a Marielle Franco dos telejornais?

Considering the transformations of the media environment and the political radicalization of Brazilian society nowadays, this dissertation proposes to reflect on the place of television news in this context, admitting that it is an important source of everyday knowledge. The murder of city councilor and sociologist Marielle Franco, in Rio de Janeiro, represented a milestone in Brazil's recent political history and achieved great popular repercussions, manifested in the streets and on social networks. Thus, the research aims to identify the enunciative strategies for the production of meanings adopted by news programs on the two broadcasters with the highest audience in the country around crime and the trajectory of the parliamentarian. The world is represented on TV through audiovisual language, which, in turn, feeds the collective imagination around facts, objects and people. For this reason, the methodology adopted is composed of Televisual Analysis, which provides a critical reading of the narrative of audiovisual products, and in-depth interviews with journalists involved in covering the murder. The research corpus is centered on Jornal Nacional, from Rede Globo de Televisão, and Jornal da Record, on Record TV, with a total of 42 editions from March 2018 to March 2019, totaling more than 35 hours of news. It is necessary to take into account the editorial lines oriented by groups with different political interests, although they maintain the hegemonic discourse of the socioeconomic elite. The theoretical course of this dissertation seeks to cover the notions of audiovisual text, narrative structure and construction of meanings; it also discusses the concepts related to television news such as cultural mediation, news criteria, social imagery, representation and interaction; in addition to explaining the routine on television for news production. The crossing of the results of the analysis of the newscasts with the interpretation of the statements of the journalists shows distinctions in the narratives, which traced different profiles of Marielle Franco, attending to political and economic interests. The way the news reports narrate the murder and represent the victim reveals a dispute of meanings and the position of each broadcaster in the scenario of political polarization of Brazilian society. The appreciation of coverage related to a representative of social minorities and the visibility given to blacks and women must be considered, but they appear as a negotiated discourse. Each news program adopted the principles and concepts of its respective audience, guaranteeing the links. However, both narratives avoid focusing on the possibility of changes in social stratification from Marielle's life story, thus maintaining the status quo.
