The pamphlet short novel is a narrative genre of string literature that presents a number of stanzas that ranges from 100 to 150, distributed along 32 pages. The stanzas are composed of six lines of seven syllables that show a rhyme pattern ABCBDB. This genre contains some features that integrate it into a primary oral tradition, in which the essential record of social data used to be made by means of contrived language. As happens with narratives in most illiterate societies, these pamphlet short novels contain features such as reiteration that, in addition to being an independent trait in itself, also play an important role in the constitution of other characteristics. Reiteration rises in the so-called verbal inner compositional repetition, which encompasses the recurrence of lines, formulae and epithets; incidental inner compositional repetition, which involves the recounting of episodes; and syntactic reiteration, which is centered on the types of enjambment that take place between pairs and lines of the stanzas. In the pamphlets, such features can be observed from a set of four stories and their nine versions. A statistical survey of enjambment is made, and the data obtained is compared to that of previous studies of oral and written poetry from other traditions. Lastly, some suggestions are made for approaching the pamphlet literature in the classroom.
