The World Health Organization considers mental disorders as one of the most important issues for the longevity and quality of life. Hence, the education of professionals who serve the population in the health services entry point and those responsible for the longitudinal care, which is the Primary Health Care (PHC), becomes a priority in order to reduce the healthcare gap and to provide a more efficient assistance, from the construction of an integrated mental health (MH) care network. This study This study was carried out from January 2014 to May 2019, aimed to evaluate a model of training in mental health for primary care using e-learning. To achieve the defined goal, we used the quasi-experiment modality using two types of evaluation: effectiveness (adherence and participation) and learning (multiple choice questionnaires and peer assessment) in the course, with 170 professionals from the states of Maranhão, Rio de Janeiro, and Amazon Region. Results: The matrix support as a model of collaborative care in Brazil is still unknown in most regions of the country. The importance of MH care as part of the integral assistance needs to be strengthened, and the health managers view must be broadened for the inclusion of this type of care in the PHC, building an assistance network with professionals qualified to conduct this approach. The peer assessment has shown to be meaningful and effective for instruction about the approach in MH within the PHC, highlighting a change in the attitude of professionals towards the MH issues and the integral approach of care. E-learning allied to the problem-based methodologies have shown to be an important instrument for professionals’ integration and training, and a space for discussion and experiences exchange. Based on the results, it is noticeable the importance of e-learning implementation in the training process of professionals in the PHC for the MH approach and integral care on a large scale, and the use of active learning in this type of qualification.
