Resumo: | This work intents to accomplish a prime approach to the reasons why Espinosa didn"™t accept the invitation to lecture at heidelberg Academy. The invitation was made by Ludovicus Fabritius, in an answer to Elitor Palatino´s request, by a letter on February, 16th 1673. Espinosa´s answer, refusing the invitation, was written down on March, 30th, at the same year. Although they would guarantee him a certain freedom of philosophizing at this institution, Espinosa refused the offer, presenting two reasons: (1) the fact that the disposal of his time to the youth lecture would disturb his own philosophy advancement and (2) the unknown limits of freedom he would have been offered. Throughout his analytic bibliographic study, this work will examine in which way this reasons should be understood, when read through what Espinosa expresses on his works, showing how this invitation refuse is in deeply agreement to what his philosophy teaches and defends, that means, the soul tranquility and freedom of teaching. Moreover, there is an appendix with the letter"™s translation containing the Espinosa"™s answer to Ludovicus Fabritius. |
