Resumo: The present research aims to show the importance of the problem of bodily condition of human beings to the origin and development of metaphysics. Our reflection develops birth Platonic dialogue Phaedo, there is seen to be the first major descriptive system than is the fundamental problem of metaphysics, namely, the question of the possibilities be corporeal vis-í -vis the intelligible. In turn, this analysis cannot be thought of without terms in view of the fact that in this dialogue, as in any philosophy, there is first of all a careful look at the situation of man's body in a world of uncertainty, this situation, determinant and any possible discourse constitutive of the truth. Well, on this positions the Platonic antagonism between body (sôma) and soul (psychê), which, dating back to the Orphic-Pythagorean tradition, does not represents anything other than the tension present in the human being between the finite, represented by the limits of his body, and the infinite, the desire and ability of each launch to meet this world also infinite.

Nossa reflexão se desenvolve à luz do diálogo platônico Fédon, haja visto estar ali o primeiro grande sistema descritivo do que seja o problema fundamental da metafí­sica, a saber, a pergunta pelas possibilidades desse ser corpóreo face ao inteligí­vel. Esta análise por sua vez, não pode ser pensada sem termos em vista o fato de que neste diálogo, como em qualquer filosofia, existe antes de tudo um olhar cuidadoso à situação corporal do homem em um mundo de incertezas, situação esta, determinante e constitutiva de qualquer discurso possí­vel sobre a verdade.
