Resumo: This article seeks approach of several discussions about natural resources that has a common use of savannas at Minas Gerais. We connect these discussions to the field of environmental conflicts. First, we have to clarify that Savannas are used here as a plural word because we have to think them considering its vast social, ecological and environmental dimensions. The methodological procedures were done this way:  we did a bibliographic review about two issues and the observations were followed by the analysis of a qualitative research developed with peasants in the savannas of northern Minas Gerais and Jequitinhonha Valley.  This researches used as tools for data collection, semi-structured interview and oral reports recorded on audio, as well as field notes. The reflections point out that policies intended for savannas and the shares of capital prompt have carried out those areas to a deep degradation, ant it has resulted in an environmental imbalance, consequently it has put people in territorial disputes. Up to the present the experiences has shown that the natural resources exploitation in common ownership by the region's people has been an efficient way of conserving Brazilian Savannas, even though they are still subjected to degradation. Thus, it is necessary a wider attention to public investment in that area, it is necessary the return of the occupied territories too, returning them to the natural people from Brazilian savannas as well as its conservation.

Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)2013-06-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion Peer reviewed Revisado por paresAvaliado pelos paresapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/article/view/448Journal Geotemas; Vol. 3 No. 1 (2013): Revista Geotemas; 235-249Revista Geotemas; Vol. 3 Núm. 1 (2013): Revista Geotemas; 235-249Revista Geotemas; v. 3 n. 1 (2013): Revista Geotemas; 235-2492236-255Xreponame:Revista Geotemasinstname:Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)instacron:UERNporhttps://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/article/view/448/363Copyright (c) 2013 REVISTA GEOTEMASinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSilva, Marcos Nicolau Santos da 2021-07-12T17:08:17Zoai:ojs2.periodicos.apps.uern.br:article/448Revistahttp://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/indexPUBhttp://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/oaigeotemas@uern.br||josielguedes@yahoo.com.br2236-255X2236-255Xopendoar:2021-07-12T17:08:17Revista Geotemas - Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)false
