A PHILOSOPHY OF GEOGRAPHY AS METHODOLOGICAL NECESSITY IN THE THEORETICAL PROPOSE OF MILTON SANTOS.

Resumo: The reflection about the method into the geography can be made, among endless possibilities, from the update of contributions located in various sciences and in the philosophy, including theoretical propositions of geography, or in addition, based in the research, often named "empirical", about one or more aspect of territorial dynamic (the technical systems and territory integration, the new urban dynamics, the role of information, the territorials effects of public policies, some of the mains themes of research in the geographical science actually). The last perspective is often made in construction process of doctoral thesis, master"™s degree dissertation or monograph. We problematize the possibilities to treat the two perspective (update of contributions and empirical analyses) in a complementary way. For this, the text discusses briefly the importance of "Metageografia" in the Milton Santos"™s perspective for the correct methodological conduction of geographical science. We advocate that the method itself involve complexity operations. Thus, its construction and utilization require a philosophy of geography. We start from the ideia of Armando Corrêia da Silva (1980, 2000) that says that, inside social totality, the geography must be considerate a subtotality. The aim of this reflection is to bring a contribution for the debate about geographic"™s method.

The aim of this reflection is to bring a contribution for the debate about geographic"™s method.A reflexão sobre o método no interior da geografia pode ser feita, dentre as inúmeras possibilidades existentes, a partir da atualização de contribuições dispersas nas diversas ciências e nafilosofia, além do resgate de proposições de teóricos da própria geografia, ou, ainda, com base em estudos, recorrentemente chamados de "empí­ricos, sobre um ou mais aspectos da dinâmica territorial (os sistemas técnicos e a integração do território, as novas dinâmicas urbanas, o papel da informação, as implicações territoriais das polí­ticas públicas, todos estes são exemplos de temas de estudos atuais da ciência geográfica) – exercí­cio que frequentemente se faz no âmbito da produção de uma tese, dissertação ou monografia. Problematizamos as possibilidades de encaminhar essas duas perspectivas de maneira não só paralela, mas, também, complementar. Para isso, o texto aborda, sucintamente, a importância da Metageografia na perspectiva de Milton Santos para uma correta condução metodológica da ciência geográfica. Advoga-se neste trabalho que o método envolve operações complexas e que, por assim ser, sua construção e utilização exigem uma filosofia da Geografia. Para tanto, nos baseamos no pressuposto defendido por Armando Corrêia da Silva (1980; 2000) para quem, dentro da totalidade social, a Geografia deve ser considerada uma subtotalidade.
