Estimation of the natural erosion potential of soil in the Longá river watershed, Piauí­, Brazil.

Resumo: The objective of this research was to estimate the Natural Erosion Potential of the soils of the Longá river watershed, located in the north of the state of Piauí­. Three physical parameters of the Universal Soil Loss Equation were considered: rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility and topographic factor. The erosivity was calculated from the historical series of precipitation data estimated by satellite. A calculation of erodibility was made from the application of empirical equations using data of soil samples made available by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The topographic factor was obtained through the software LS-TOOLS, using a digital elevation model. It was concluded that the basin has low natural erosion potential, with 72% of its area with erosion estimation lower than 200 tons ac-¹ year-¹. The regions with high erosive potential (NEP > 800 tons ac-¹ year-¹) are situated in the northeast and southeast sections of the basin and are related to a slope terrain. The results identify the topographic factor as the parameter of greatest influence in the occurrence of erosive processes in the basin.

Se consideraron los tres parámetros fí­sicos de la ecuación universal de pérdida de suelo: erosión por lluvia, erosión del suelo y factor topográfico. La erosividad se calculó a partir de la serie histórica de datos de precipitación estimados por satélite. El cálculo de la erosibilidad se realizó utilizando ecuaciones empí­ricas utilizando datos de muestras de suelo proporcionadas por el Instituto Brasileño de Geografí­a y Estadí­stica. El factor topográfico se obtuvo usando el programa LS-TOOLS, usando un modelo digital de elevación. Se concluye que la cuenca tiene un potencial de erosión natural bajo, con un 72% de su área con una erosión estimada por debajo de 200 t ha-¹ año-¹. Las regiones con alto potencial erosivo (PNE> 800 t ha-¹ año-¹) se encuentran en los sectores noreste y sureste de la cuenca y están asociadas con un relieve inclinado. Los resultados identifican el factor topográfico como el parámetro con mayor influencia en la ocurrencia de procesos de erosión en la cuenca. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi estimar o Potencial Natural de Erosão dos solos da bacia hidrográfica do rio Longá, localizada no norte do estado do Piauí­. Considerouse os três parâmetros fí­sicos da Equação Universal de Perdas de Solo: erosividade da chuva, erodibilidade dos solos e fator topográfico. A erosividade foi calculada a partir da série histórica de dados de precipitação estimada por satélite. Realizou-se o cálculo da erodibilidade com aplicação de equações empí­ricas utilizando dados de amostras de solos disponibilizadas pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatí­stica. O fator topográfico foi obtido por meio da programa LS-TOOLS, utilizando um modelo digital de elevação. Conclui-se que a bacia apresenta baixo potencial natural de erosão, com 72% de sua área com estimativa de erosão inferior a 200 t ha-¹ ano-¹. As regiões com alto potencial erosivo (PNE > 800 t ha-¹ ano-¹) encontram-se nos setores nordeste e sudeste da bacia e estão associadas a relevo declivoso. Os resultados identificaram o fator topográfico como o parâmetro de maior influência na ocorrência de processos erosivos na bacia.
