Resumo: Since the emergence of the social sciences, the analysis of housing in cities has been in evidence. The reports of Friedrich Engels' work "The Condition of Working Classes in England" gave rise to new ways of thinking about the problem. In the 20th century, ways to solve the problem of housing for the working masses in the cities were devised. These initiatives can be associated with the emergence of urban planning. Urban planners of the 20th century began to seek solutions for the implementation of housing spaces. In counterpoint to this process, the way of organizing urban housing and the ways of living in the city was not only related to urban planning issues. Robert Ezra Park, developed theories about the processes of interaction between individuals and communities in the urban environment. The intention of this paper is to approach the existing relations between the theoretical conceptions of the author and the sprawl of gated horizontal condominiums in the city of Mossoró. Key concepts that can be associated with the theme were retrieved from the works of the theorist. The theoretical contributions were related to the conditions of the urban housing models implemented in recent years in Mossoró. Qualitative analyses were carried out to identify the connections between the theoretical conditions and the reality of the undertakings. Even with limits, the work of Robert Park shows aptitude to explain socio-spatial phenomena that are present in society and how it she appropriates and revalues urban spaces.

Qualitative analyses were carried out to identify the connections between the theoretical conditions and the reality of the undertakings. Even with limits, the work of Robert Park shows aptitude to explain socio-spatial phenomena that are present in society and how it she appropriates and revalues urban spaces. Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)2021-08-09info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion Peer reviewed Revisado por paresAvaliado pelos paresapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/article/view/3163Journal Geotemas; Vol. 11 (2021): Revista Geotemas; e02109Revista Geotemas; Vol. 11 (2021): Revista Geotemas; e02109Revista Geotemas; v. 11 (2021): Revista Geotemas; e021092236-255Xreponame:Revista Geotemasinstname:Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)instacron:UERNengporhttps://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/article/view/3163/3726https://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/article/view/3163/2733Copyright (c) 2021 Revista Geotemashttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantos, João Paulo Silva dos2023-08-05T01:18:16Zoai:ojs2.periodicos.apps.uern.br:article/3163Revistahttp://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/indexPUBhttp://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/GEOTemas/oaigeotemas@uern.br||josielguedes@yahoo.com.br2236-255X2236-255Xopendoar:2023-08-05T01:18:16Revista Geotemas - Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)false
