Metamorphoses of the lower residential circuit: an analysis of the commercial dynamics of the Três Irmãs neighborhood, Campina Grande-PB (2017-2018)

This text concerns some reflections on the process of social and spatial segregation and its relationship with the commercial dynamization in peripheral urban areas, in order to understand the social and spatial dynamics of the Feira Sudoeste in the Três Irmãs neighborhood, Campina Grande. For that, we spotted the main factors that resulted in the creation of this fair, such as its role in the local area, regarding the flow of consumers, traders, goods and capital. As a theoretical and methodological option, we adopted the concepts of "lower residential circuit" and "lower central circuit" worked by Milton Santos in his work "The Divided Space", this allowed us analyzer the differences between the dynamics of the peripheral stores in relation to the stores linked to the city center. For this, we use a qualitative and quantitative methodology, based on in loco research, benefiting from the application of semi-structured interviews, structured questionnaires, as well as, of the capture of photographic images. In such a way, at the end of the research we found that the respective fair played an important role in the economic dynamism of the mentioned neighborhood, offering to the poorest segments of the population possibilities of employment and consumption of perishable goods at low cost. It was possible to observe a real socio-spatial stratification in this peripheral area, with the existence of residents with different possibilities of access to the markets located in the city center.
