The importance of plate cisterns in the rural area of Serra Redonda - PB: an analysis of the Torre Community

The Brazilian semi-arid region has a characteristic of susceptibility and prolonged drying that occurs cyclically, in part, due to poor distribution of precipitations in time and space. One of the public policies adopted in the semi-arid region has been the construction of plate cisterns, dams and dams, seeking to facilitate access to water by the population, thus constituting, a social water technology, which is considered one of the strategies of coexistence with the semiarid. In this sense, the present article has as objective to present the uses of the water and the perception of the importance of the cisterns of plaques by the residents of the Torre Community, rural area of Serra Redonda, Agreste Paraibano, where a great number of these works are concentrated and subsistence agriculture prevails. The work methodology consisted of a bibliographical survey and the application of questionnaires to the residents of the researched community, aiming to obtain data on water uses and the importance of cisterns in the locality. The results show that the main uses of water include self-consumption and maintenance of domestic activities, perception of the importance the residents are satisfied with the works and recognize their economic and social value.
