Resumo: O presente estudo apresenta uma proposta de reconstrução do estágio anterior ao momento a partir do qual o morfema que marca o modo gerúndio em Tenetehára - Tembé e Guajajára - se desenvolveu. Serão comparados dados atuais da língua com outros mais antigos, que registram estágios anteriores e permitem traçar a origem deste morfema. O estudo se fundamenta no método de reconstrução interna e na técnica de comparação documental de estágios distintos de uma mesma língua. Com este estudo pretendemos contribuir para o conhecimento de mudanças estruturais ocorridas em uma das línguas da família Tupí-Guaraní.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: língua Tenetehára. Modo gerúndio.
