Resumo: Irony is a figure of rhetoric summarized as a way of expressing oneself with the opposite to what one is thinking. From the perspective of Rhetoric, the resource works as an argumentative device – through it, it is possible to argue indirectly. Based on these considerations, this article aims to show the functioning of irony in Rubem chronicles that approach the figure of the woman, based on the hypothesis that this figure is one of the rhetorical resources that the author frequently uses to show himself convincing and persuade your audience. The theoretical assumptions underlying the analysis come from rhetoric, specifically from New Rhetoric researchers who approach the mechanism, such as Paiva (1961), Tringali (1988), Reboul (2004), Fiorin (2014) and Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (2020). The examination of the data takes into account the analysis of excerpts that allow an understanding of irony.

En la Retórica, el recurso funciona como dispositivo argumentativo – a través de él, se puede argumentar indirectamente. En este sentido, este artículo tiene como objetivo mostrar el funcionamiento de la ironía en las crónicas de Rubem Braga que aborden la figura de la mujer, partiendo de la hipótesis de que este es uno de los recursos retóricos a los que recurre con frecuencia el autor para resultar convincente y persuadir a su audiencia. Los supuestos teóricos que subyacen al análisis provienen de la retórica, específicamente de los estudiosos de la Nueva Retórica que abordan el mecanismo, como Paiva (1961), Tringali (1988), Reboul (2004), Fiorin (2014) y Perelman y Olbrechts-Tyteca (2020). El examen de los datos tiene en cuenta fragmentos que permiten la aprehensión de la ironía.A ironia é uma figura de retórica resumida como o modo de manifestar-se opostamente ao que se está pensando. Na perspectiva da Retórica, o recurso funciona como expediente argumentativo – por meio dele, pode-se argumentar indiretamente. Nesse sentido, este artigo objetiva mostrar o funcionamento da ironia em crônicas de Rubem Braga que abordam a figura da mulher, a partir da hipótese de que esta seja um dos recursos retóricos a que o autor recorre com frequência para se mostrar convincente e persuadir seu público. Os pressupostos teóricos que fundamentam a análise advêm da retórica, especificamente de estudiosos da Nova Retórica que abordam o mecanismo, como Paiva (1961), Tringali (1988), Reboul (2004), Fiorin (2014) e Perelman e Olbrechts-Tyteca (2020).
