The capacity of tourism territorialize the space have different consequences. In the global context, it has been common to many coastal tourist destinations, the focus on encouraging mass tourism, generally governed by the interests of economic and political sectors of dominant groups, generating numerous space-territorial contradictions. This text aims to point out and analyze recent developments in the territorialization of tourism in Maceió, capital of the State of Alagoas (Brazil), addressing aspects of the spatial-territorial transformations of this tourist destination. The destination stands out in the Brazilian market in the sun-and-sea tourism segment, and has been developing this segment since the 1970s. Despite the existence of coastal resources that are widely used as tourist attractions, the way in which this destination comes if developing, associated with other urban territorializations, it has generated socio-spatial contradictions, in addition to being harmful to the natural resources themselves, which are the basis for sustaining local tourism.
