Resumo: This paper analyses the Curupira myth configuration in the oral narratives of the interior of the Amazon rainforest, through which it is possible to obtain a portrait of this supernatural being who, according to Cascudo (2010), is the most vivid god of the tropical forests.  We focus on analysing the representation of the myth, observing the way in which its image is preserved in the popular tradition of the inhabitants of the forest. The stories also invite us to reflect on the role played by the tutelary genius of the forest in the everyday life of the so-called povos da floresta (forest peoples), especially in the rural setting of the riverine interior. Curupira's mission is evident in the protection and defence of the forest, an element common to all the stories studied.

Curupira's mission is evident in the protection and defence of the forest, an element common to all the stories studied.
