Dialogism between verbal and visual statements in A boca da noite, by Cristino Wapichana: relations and functions

Resumo: The dialogue between the verbal and visual statements in the illustrated book establishes, through its constitutive elements, intense dialogical relationships that act in the production of meanings and apprehension of the narrative. Based on this configuration, the objective of this article is to analyze the relations of redundancy, collaboration and disjunction resulting from the interaction between text and image in the work A boca da noite, written by Cristino Wapichana and illustrated by Graça Lima. From this perspective, the problematizing question turns to identifying how the dialogue between words, colors and illustrations generate different relationships and functions between text and image in the work. The concepts that guide Bakhtin's (2006) conception of dialogism, also addressed by Barros (2003), Brait (2003) and Fiorin (2006), associated with studies by Linden (2018) on the relationships and functions of text and image constitute the foundation used in the analysis. The dialogical relationships that are established between verbal and visual statements in the work are relationships of meaning that generate other relationships and responsive functions of one statement in the face of another.

Alicerçado nessa configuração, o objetivo deste artigo consiste em analisar as relações de redundância, colaboração e disjunção resultantes da interação entre enunciados verbais e visuais a obra A boca da noite, escrita por Cristino Wapichana e ilustrada por Graça Lima. Sob essa perspectiva, a questão problematizadora volta-se para identificar como o diálogo entre palavras, cores e ilustrações geram diferentes relações e funções entre texto e imagem na obra.  Os conceitos que norteiam a concepção de dialogismo de Bakhtin (2006), também abordados por Barros (2003), Brait (2003) e Fiorin (2006), associados aos estudos de Linden (2018), sobre as relações e funções do texto e da imagem, constituem a base de fundamentação empregada na análise. As relações dialógicas que se instauram entre os enunciados verbais e visuais na obra são relações de sentido geradoras de outras relações e funções responsivas de um enunciado em face do outro.El diálogo entre los enunciados verbales y visuales en el libro ilustrado establece, a través de sus elementos constitutivos, intensas relaciones dialógicas que actúan en la producción de significados y aprehensión de la narrativa. A partir de esta configuración, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar las relaciones de redundancia, colaboración y disyunción resultantes de la interacción entre texto e imagen en la obra A boca da Noite, escrita por Cristino Wapichana e ilustrada por Graça Lima. Desde esta perspectiva, la cuestión problematizadora pasa a identificar cómo el diálogo entre palabras, colores e ilustraciones generan diferentes relaciones y funciones entre texto e imagen en la obra.
