Interdisciplinarity is a reality that cannot be neglected by the teacher, because we go through a time in which such practice becomes necessary as a strategic pedagogical approach to bring the student closer to the knowledge process, while creating connections between different disciplines. In this sense, this article has the function of promoting through Aluísio Azevedo’s novel - "The Slum", an interdisciplinary possibility between Literature and Geography, having the concept of Place as theoretical reference for the critical discussions presented in the novel, as Azevedo exposes the reality lived by slum residents at Rio de Janeiro city by the end of the 19th century, and this can be seen from a different way through the Geography approach and the concept of Place that is presented here. For this, we seek a methodology that dialogues with the different views of some selected authors about the concept and how this category of analysis can be understood through the reading of the novel, where the Place achieves new meanings through production and reproduction of the characters by the space where they lived.
