In today's increasingly competitive marketplace, the search for methods of making construction processes less costly is becoming increasingly important for all engineering-related companies, contractors and offices. In this scenario, therefore, studies are needed that precisely and technically address new construction processes that actually have more economic advantages compared to traditional construction methods, rationally and sustainably. The present work compares the costs of the same building in the city of Paulo Afonso, Bahia, in the construction methods of conventional reinforced concrete and structural masonry of concrete blocks. Initially, theoretical contents related to structural masonry were approached, with concepts and technical definitions about this constructive method. The structural design performed by the company used in the case study was used and the design of the building in structural masonry was performed. The comparative study was initially made separating the processes common to the two constructive methods. The quantitative survey of the items was made based on indices established for the two constructive methods, considering the nature of each one. From the comparisons made it was found that for the structure and fence subsystems, in the construction process of structural masonry there is a savings of 28,5% compared to reinforced concrete, and in relation to the total cost of the work has a savings approximately 7%. It is concluded from this study that for the analyzed building the structural masonry has economic advantages over reinforced concrete.
