This research seeks to develop an analysis of the reality faced by the municipality of Piranhas - Al, regarding the process of growth of tourism generating aggravating consequences, which in this case are related to environmental impacts. In the last five years the municipality has pointed to a strong growth in tourist activities, due to the flow of of visitors that the city receives. The areas on the banks of the São Francisco, are the main tourist attraction of the city, which are being occupied in a disorderly and irregular manner by the construction of projects commercial. One of the main facilitating mechanisms of these occupations is the the fact that there is no rigorous inspection process that prevents such buildings will emerge, favoring increased degradation environmental impact of these areas. Through a qualitative and quantitative research, a survey of how it was and are the areas now occupied through the questionnaire to residents of the municipality, also presenting the relevance of tourism to the city and especially how it affects the lives of people. Thus, tourism presents itself as a phenomenon that recreates diverse spatial configurations, the proposal is to develop an awareness environment within tourist activities, where the practice of environmental education within geographical education is of paramount importance as it prepares the students to cope with daily adversity.
