História e memória de Canindé de São Francisco - SE, antes e pós a construção da Usina Hidrelétrica de Xingó

Memory, from the perspective of history, is present in societies by various means, be it in documents, monuments or memories. It is up to Memory, together with History, to perpetuate what happened in the past and that marked humanity in some way independent of social class, gender or ethnicity, in order to keep these memories present. From this perspective, the present work recorded the memories of the common individuals who lived in the old municipality of Canindé de São Francisco - SE, considering that it passed through a transition of locality due to the construction of the Xingó Hydroelectric Power Plant. The work covered aspects of the daily life of the old and the new city, punctuating the most significant changes caused by the impact of the great work. In order to reach the objectives outlined, bibliographical research was carried out on the topics covered, such as Memory, Oral History, Cultural History and Local History. In addition, using the Thematic Oral History as a technique to collect the reports, it was possible to conduct semi-structured interviews with three former residents of the municipality with age range between seventy and seventy-three years, ensuring the qualitative approach of the research. It was found that the arrival of the hydroelectric dam affected positively and negatively the daily life of the city of Canindé de São Francisco in several aspects, such as the structure itself, the economy, the social relations, the cultural manifestations and the identity of the population, since besides the change of locality itself, had to change their habits already delineated by the riverside identity.
