The present work presents a study about the adductor channel of the sertão where it realizes a balance of demand X water availability of the Sertão channel. Knowing that the priority of the same will be the human supply, animal watering and irrigation. Its objective is to improve the living standards of the rural population, to implement social infrastructure in the rural area and to enable the population to develop sustainable economic activities. Considering this, it was observed the need to make a balance of the water resource of the same, with the purpose of estimating the water demand and availability. Demand analysis provides basic information for planning and control of research, and is used to identify priorities in decisions on resource allocation. Availability assessment is critical to whether the available resources support the desired demands. Therefore, the projection of the population was carried out for 30 years, being possible to determine human demand and its share in total demand. Regarding the demand of animal consumption and irrigation, the consumption for the data of 2013 was analyzed, being this the last year with data available. When assessing the demand and availability, it was verified that the channel of the sertão has sufficient availability for supply presented a slack that can be used for other types of uses that differs from its priority. The study presented a water consumption of 83% of canal resources and based on the law 9.433 of January 8, 1997, it was verified the necessity of measures of management of the water resources. With this, there should be a concern with increasing demand and shortage of water resources, thus generating the need to define criteria and parameters for the assessment of water availability in order to rank regional demands and availability and subsidize public policies for resource management and social development.
