This study was based on field research to obtain information from Delmiro Gouveia / AL public market workers regarding meat handling and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Taking as a starting point; the aim of this study is to analyze the association that exists between the work process in a varied meat market and the possible causes of injuries and illness of workers. This is a case study of a quantitative nature. Methodologically, a statistical survey methodology was used, thus obtaining from the workers information on the knowledge of the use of materials and routine practices in the workplace. However, the ban on the slaughterhouse by the Integrated Preventive Inspection (FPI) of São Francisco reduced the number of research workers, making it difficult for some items of the questionnaire to produce information that could correlate with the variables analyzed and were therefore removed. However, with the obtained results we can observe a good relation of linear intensity of the other questions and we realize with that that the workers of the public market know the importance of the use of the PPE and the correct practice of the handling of the products, but, for being the majority owners. from their own establishment and already have many years of practice they believe they are not subject to the risks and diseases caused by poor posture in relation to the handling of meat and the destruction of EPIS. Thus, one way to change the inappropriate behavior of these workers would be to raise their awareness through educational lectures that show the importance of performing activities as defined by occupational safety and health, in order to end the bad habits that are generally most responsible for workplace accidents.
