This study aimed at surveying the forage species from floodplain Baixo Amazonas, in Parintins and Barreirinha city, in the State Amazonas, Brazil. The survey of grasses and leguminous was conducted in situ through breeders verbal narrative at their breeding systems. The data was obtained by applying questionnaires with twenty semi-structured questions and listing each found species in the visited proprieties. The socioeconomic profile of each interviewee was described and breeding system in the proprieties too along the different seasons of the year, all being in an extensive system. It was also made the description of the forages on the empirical points of view of the actors involved and scientific based on morphological characteristics and their identification keys, through the available bibliography of each species identified in the Low Amazon floodplain environment. The empirical knowledge has reflected the diversity of experience rescued and passed on through the generations that acted in the systems of breeding system in the areas. The scientific knowledge of the species that has been utilized in these areas may be used as base to generate data to local and scientific community, contributing the development of livestock in the region through the better use of the lowland area with sustainability.
