Saneamento básico em comunidades carentes e sua relação com a vida da mulher: estudo de caso da Comunidade da Sharp/Manaus-AM

Access to water and sanitary sewage is a universal right established by the United Nations, but it is still one of the main factors linked to poverty and the transmission of diseases. In Brazil it is no different, even though it is a country rich in water resources and has the largest freshwater basin in the world, mostly located in the Amazon, the country has statistics that reveal that the distribution of this water in the national territory happens irregularly, affecting the lives of millions of Brazilians - where more than half are women. In this context, the present work aimed to present from the perspective of sustainability and criteria related to basic sanitation (water supply and sewerage) the impacts on women's lives, residents of the community of Sharp in the city of Manaus/AM. To this end, secondary data obtained by the Management Unit of Special Projects - UGPE/AM were collected and analyzed and in loco visits were made in the study area, community of Sharp in Manaus/AM. However, it was observed that urban regions occupied by populations in socioeconomic vulnerability are directly affected by the inefficiency, and sometimes non-existence, of sanitation systems, as occurs with women in the community of Sharp in Manaus, which represent the largest portion of the population and provider of household income, but are those who have lower levels of purchasing power, education and reside in homes with poor infrastructure, because many do not even have a bathroom or can withstand the flooding resulting from occupation in the bed of a body of water. In this context, it is worth redirecting a technical look at Engineering in the context of real, current and often avoidable problems, if we walk in parallel with social, environmental and political issues, perpetuating improvements that talk to the needs of end users and aligned with the light of sustainability.
