“After Samora Machel, write about who?” The Mozambicans told me when I was there in the field. However, despite the phrase, memories of different individuals who fought in the country's independence process have emerged and aroused interests. This article is part of my postdoctoral research, which aims to analyze the published memories of these subjects and to understand how Mozambique's independence process is built on these narratives. Memories that also gain the contours of the context of their production, in this case, the post-civil war. In the presente article, the documental body are the biography of Mondlane, Machel, Chissano and Guebuza, central names in FRELIMO's leadership.  Generally, as the analysis of sources allows to observe central themes and changes in time as they pass in time, indicating that the narratives respond to the past remembered and to the quests that are experienced (and facing the political arena); Likewise, it is observed that construction agents from FRELIMO and consequently from Moçambique were placed, attributing the most recent sources or hero value to Mondlane and Machel and placing them in the traditional heritage (Chissano and Guebuza).
