Resumo: | The present research aims to analyze the extreme meteorological event that occurred between June 30 and July 1, 2020. Widely called in the media as "bomb cyclone", the explosive cyclogenesis that triggered this event caused impacts in the three states from the southern region of Brazil. However, a doubt emerges: was the passage of the bomb cyclone over the affected area the cause of the intense wind gusts? To answer this question, the cartography of the affected municipalities was used, as well as the associated atmospheric dynamics. Hourly atmospheric pressure and maximum wind gust data from 12 automatic stations were used to assess responses to weather variables. The results express, in fact, an explosive cyclogenesis related to the event, but whose gusts were associated with the displacement of the different component parts of the extratropical cyclone. The area affected by the gusts of wind on June 30, for example, does not correspond to the sector of the cyclonic center, but before the cold frontal system coupled to it. |

Amplamente divulgado nos meios de comunicação como “ciclone bomba”, a ciclogênese explosiva desencadeadora desse evento causou impactos nos três estados da região sul do Brasil. Porém, uma dúvida emerge: foi de fato a passagem do ciclone bomba sobre a área atingida o causador das intensas rajadas de vento? Para responder a esse questionamento, recorreu-se à cartografia dos municípios atingidos, bem como, da dinâmica atmosférica. Dados horários de pressão atmosférica e rajada máxima de vento de 12 estações meteorológicas automáticas foram usados para avaliar as respostas nas variáveis meteorológicas. Os resultados expressam, de fato, uma ciclogênese explosiva relacionada ao evento, mas cujas rajadas estiveram associadas ao deslocamento das diferentes partes componentes do ciclone extratropical.
