Resumo: The objective of the present study was to carry out a technological survey of patent documents related to snakes of the genus Bothrops sp., analyzing documents related to medicinal purposes. To carry out this survey, the Orbit Intelligence patent database was used, searching for the term “Bothrops” and directing the search to medicinal purposes using the A61K patent classification, without temporal or spatial delimitation. 67 patent families were found, with Brazil, China and Mexico as the countries with the largest amounts of patent document deposits. The main institutions filing patent applications were the Swiss company Pentapharm, the Brazilian company Biolab Sanus Farmacêutica and the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP). The main depositing countries were Brazil, China and Mexico. It was possible to notice a predominance of filed patents in relation to current ones, indicating that this is a technological area with low innovation dynamics.
