  This paper analyzes the potential of GI of honey in Integrated Development Region of the Federal District and Environment (RIDE). The research was a bibliographical, descriptive and qualitative study to identify variables that influence the potential of GI of honey, which has superior quality to other regions due to the dry climate and low humidity, which makes it purer. Beekeeping is well established and growing; according to the Beekeepers Association of DF (APIDF) local production is sold all over the region, and a GI may weaken APIDF, since another entity would execute GI management. The difficulties to increase production are depredations and robberies of beehives, environmental fires, use of agrochemicals in the apiculture pasture and lack of training of beekeepers. There is a need for more knowledge about GI; a folder on GI and its benefits was produced for RIDE beekeepers.
