Scientific and Technological Prospection of Kaurenoic Acid, a Bioactive Diterpene

The present prospection addresses the biological activities of the kaurenoic acid, emphasizing the pharmacological and therapeutic applications in the last 20 years. In this scientific and technological prospection, bibliographic research and patent application process were carried out. In the search of papers, electronic scientific databases were used Scielo and Pubmed; for the search of the requests in Brazil, the database of the INPI was used and for international patents was obtained information from the LENS platform, with the keywords “acido carenoico” and “kaurenoic acid” in search fields “title” and “abstract”. Regarding, an increase of the number of paper publication was noticed, reaching a much higher average in the second decade (8.6) compared to the first (3.5), making visible the increasing scientific and technological interest for the kaurenoic acid, although the study shows that there is still a lack for applied research due to pharmacology and therapeutic effect as anti-inflammatory and anticancer.
