The Jalapão Region in the state of Tocantins is traditional for its golden grass craftsmanship, recognized as an Indication of Origin by the National Institute of Industrial Property. With the recognition of the Geographical Indication, the question arises about the performance of the procedural substitute in the management of the rights and interests related to it, being the objective of this study to analyze the performance of the Associação dos Artesãos in Capim Dourado of the Region of the State of Tocantins, in order to identify the reflexes in the protection of golden grass handicraft products. A hypothetical-deductive method of approach was used, with a case study procedure based on a bibliographical and documental review, whose result is the verification of the lack of control and defense of golden grass handicrafts, due to the lack of representativeness and participation of local artisans in the training and management of the procedural substitute, whose creation resulted from state incentives, which even placed it outside the area of the Jalapão Region.
