Patentary Mapping on Fertilizers in a Brazilian Scenario

The Agroindustry in Brazil promoted a great growth between the 1950s and 1980s; this promoted an increase in the consumption of fertilizers, having its demand tripled every 10 years, a fact that characterizes a great growth of the innovative capacity in this Industry. In order to assess the innovative capacity of the technologies involved in this scenario, data from patent documents extracted from INPI-BR database were used, where 1536 patent documents were selected with no defined time range, it was observed that more than 50% of the total of documents refer to organic and phosphate fertilizers, even as an alternative to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. From this study, it can be concluded that most of the patent documents deposited in Brazil are about organic fertilizers, from residents in Brazil corroborating the fact that the Brazilian agro-industrial sector produces a large amount of organic waste, of vegetable and animal origin.
