Impacts of the Quarantine Policies of the Covid-19, Sars-Cov-2, Pandemic on Brazilian ST&I: prospecting post-epidemic crisis scenarios

The strengthening of government policies for ST&I in Brazil between 2003 and 2014 – with the creation of laws to stimulate innovation, increase in public investments in ST&I, construction of almost 500 campuses of Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, creation of 18 Federal Universities, federal investments in Education growing from R$ 24.5 billion to R$ 94.2 billion – brought very important results in terms of scientific production. The rupture in investments in ST&I since the economic-institutional crisis in 2015, however, increased uncertainties regarding the long-term results, forcing institutions to adapt. The Coronavirus Sars-Cov-2 Pandemic, with the closure of laboratories and university campuses and interruption of economic activity at a global level, can change even more profoundly the methods of knowledge production, replacing face-to-face activities with the online modality. Based on a survey of 401 researchers, this paper prospects future scenarios for Scientific Research in Brazil after Covid-19.
