Technological Prospection of Cognitive Stimulation for Elderly People With Alzheimer's Disease

Resumo: The Brazilian and global reality points to an increase in life expectancy, with the healthy aging of the population being a concern. Among the main conditions that affect the individual in old age is dementia, whose main cause is Alzheimer's disease (AD). Cognitive stimulation activities are important to alleviate symptoms and train memory in people with AD. This study aims to carry out a patentometric survey of patent records on cognitive stimulation for elderly people with Alzheimer's disease. The methodology adopted was a search of the state of the art through patentometry on the Orbit Questel website, for the period 2002-2022, using specific descriptors. Five patents with technologies aimed at Alzheimer's Disease were selected, which bring proposals for games and the use of virtual reality for cognitive stimulation in the elderly. In this scenario, Brazil has 63 patents, with a peak of publications in 2002 (n = 87) and an average of 29 per year between 2003 and 2007. It is concluded that it is essential to create a culture of innovation, seeking to technologies that improve the lives of the population, such as the elderly with Alzheimer's disease.

O objetivo deste  estudo é realizar um levantamento patentométrico acerca de registros de patentes sobre estimulação cognitiva para idosos com doença de Alzheimer. A metodologia adotada foi a patentometria no site Orbit Questel, para o período 2002-2022. Foram selecionadas cinco patentes que trazem propostas de jogos e uso de realidade virtual para estímulo cognitivo em idosos. O Brasil possui 63 patentes, com pico de publicações no ano de 2002 (n = 87) e na média de 29 por ano entre os anos de 2003 a 2007.
