Macauba Applications: a prospective study

Macauba stands out because it presents an oil with potential characteristics for use as raw material in the cosmetic industry, in the pharmaceutical industry and even for the energy sector, for example in the production of biodiesel. The present work carried out a technological study with the aid of bibliographic review and patent analysis tools on the main applications of macauba in the present time. It was performed a research on the main aspects of macauba, its fruit, general characteristics of the oil, and its main applications existing in the actual literature. Two prospecting methods were used: the trend analysis method and the computational methods / analytical tools. With the integration of these tools, the most recent applications were listed through a mapping of patents involving macauba and potential areas for future investments and future technologies were analyzed. It was found that, between 2008 and 2015, 14 patents related to macauba were registered, 13 of which were registered in Brazil. In addition, the trend of applicability of macauba in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and energy industries was confirmed.
