What can a dead bird do? Reflections on queer theory, affect and negativity

Resumo: Based on the recent controversy involving the expulsion of a trans and Romani participant from the TV showMasterChef Spain, after she served an uncooked and unplucked dead bird to the judges, this paper examines the relationsbetween gender, sexuality, race, affects, and inclusion politics. To analyze both the media coverage of the episode and theheated public reaction, we mobilize the queer theories proposed by Sara Ahmed, José Esteban Muñoz, Leo Bersani, JackHalberstam, Lee Edelman, and Judith Butler. In short, even within queer theory we observe important disputes over thepolitical meanings of subversion, transgression, and assimilation. Such impossibility of reaching an agreement reflects theaporetic character of the very concept of politics that underlies its ethical ground.

Para ello, presenta un entrecruzamiento entre elhecho mediático, sus repercusiones públicas y las propuestas teóricas tributarias de los estudios queer, principalmente las contribuciones y disonancias entre Sara Ahmed, José Esteban Muñoz, Leo Bersani, Jack Halberstam, Lee Edelman yJudith Butler. Concluimos que, incluso entre los estudios queer, existe una importante disputa sobre los sentidospolíticos de las ideas de subversión, transgresión y asimilación, y que la imposibilidad de llegar a un acuerdo entre ellosrefleja el carácter aporético del propio concepto de política que sirve de base al campo.Partindo de uma recente polêmica envolvendo a expulsão de uma participante trans e cigana do MasterChef espanhol, após ela servir aos jurados uma ave crua e com penas, este artigo examina algumas relações entre gênero, sexualidade, raça, afetos e políticas de inclusão. Para tanto, apresenta um intercruzamento entre o fato midiático, suas repercussões públicas e as propostas teóricas tributárias dos estudos queer, sobretudo através das contribuições e dissonâncias entre Sara Ahmed, José Esteban Muñoz, Leo Bersani, Jack Halberstam, Lee Edelman e Judith Butler.
