Para tanto, com base na pesquisa qualitativa, a metodologia utilizada percorre a análise bibliográfica para compreender a história da ferrovia no Brasil, destacando o papel da Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana na formação da região de Sorocaba e Itapetininga e do ramal de Itararé e a sua relação na formação e expansão territorial de Itapetininga. Posteriormente, foi realizada a pesquisa de campo para o mapeamento de vestígios existentes na cidade - patrimônios ferroviários - a fim de melhor compreender suas características, estado de conservação e funções atuais. A dissertação conclui por identificar os diversos suportes em que o legado da ferrovia se estabelece na cidade, demostrando a importância de reconhecê-los como parte integrante e indissociável da história e memória urbana itapetiningana.This dissertation aims to understand the legacy of the railroad in Itapetininga, a city located in the Metropolitan Region of Sorocaba, southwest of São Paulo State. For this, based on qualitative research, the methodology used goes through the bibliographic analysis to understand the history of the railroad in Brazil, highlighting the role of the Sorocabana Railroad in the formation of the region of Sorocaba and Itapetininga and the Itararé branch and its relationship in the formation and territorial expansion of Itapetininga. Afterwards, field research was carried out for the mapping of existing traces in the city - railway heritage - in order to better understand its characteristics, state of conservation and current functions. The dissertation concludes by identifying the various supports in which the railroad legacy is established in the city, demonstrating the importance of recognizing them as an integral and inseparable part of itapetiningana's history and urban memory.Esta disertación tiene como objetivo comprender el legado del ferrocarril en Itapetininga, una ciudad situada en la Región Metropolitana de Sorocaba, al suroeste del Estado de São Paulo. Para ello, a partir de la investigación cualitativa, la metodología utilizada pasa por el análisis bibliográfico para comprender la historia del ferrocarril en Brasil, destacando el papel del Ferrocarril de Sorocabana en la formación de las regiones de Sorocaba e Itapetininga y el ramal de Itararé y su relación en la formación y expansión territorial de Itapetininga. Posteriormente, se realizó una investigación de campo para la cartografía de los vestigios existentes en la ciudad -patrimonio ferroviario- con el fin de conocer mejor sus características, estado de conservación y funciones actuales.
