Apropriandose do fecundo desdobramento conceitual da matemática moderna, pós-cantoriana, Badiou, em O ser e o evento, buscou repensar a "tarefa fundamental da ontologia". Coeso e imodesto, o projeto ontológico de O ser e o evento, encarregado, entre outras coisas, de oferecer uma apresentação absolutamente formal do "ser-enquanto-ser", i. é., uma apresentação absolutamente formal da "ciência do ser", mostrou-se, porém, com o avançar do tempo, passível de suplementação. Instado por leitores críticos, Badiou ampliou o escopo ontológico, presente em O ser e evento, a fim de albergar uma nova modalidade de "ciência", responsável por oferecer, entre outras coisas, uma teoria abrangente acerca do aparecimento concreto dos entes no mundo. A referida teoria abrangente não veio a lume senão em 2006, com a publicação integral de Logiques des mondes (Lógicas dos mundos). Em Lógicas dos mundos, Badiou tentou complementar a apresentação formal do "ser-enquanto-ser", irrestritamente subordinada à matemática moderna, à teoria dos conjuntos, característica de Ser e Evento, com uma apresentação lógica do "aparecer". A apresentação lógica do "aparecer", arrolada em Lógicas dos mundos, dependente, em última instância, de outro ramo da matemática moderna, a saber, da teoria das categorias, é totalmente tributária de um novo conceito de transcendental. Na Seção I do Livro II, de Lógicas dos mundos, Badiou procurou estabelecer os contornos fundamentais de tal conceito. O objetivo do presente trabalho é, de um lado, explicitar, com certa minúcia, o que está em jogo no referido estabelecimento, e, de outro, expor, de maneira crítica, alguns problemas que lhe são intrínsecos.In the late 1980s, Alain Badiou, a contemporary French philosopher, published what is considered to be his magnum opus, L'être et l'événement (Being and Event). Boasted by this fertile conceptual unfolding of modern, post-Cantorian mathematics, Badiou, in Being and Event, sought to rethink the "fundamental task of ontology". Closely-knit and immodest, the ontological project of Being and Event, charged, among other things, with offering an absolutely formal presentation of the "being-as-being", i.e., an absolutely formal presentation of the "science of being", showed up, however, with the advance of time, subject to supplementation. As Badiou is urged by critical readers, he amplifies the ontological scope, present in Being and event, in order to host a new modality of "science", responsible for offering a comprehensive theory about the concrete appearance of beings in the world. This theory was brought to light only in 2006, with the complete publication of Logiques des mondes (Logics of worlds). In which, Badiou attempted to complement his formal presentation of the "being-while-being", unrestrictedly subordinated to modern mathematics and to set theory, with a presentation of logical "appearing". The presentation of logical "appearing", as written in Logics of Worlds, is ultimately dependent on another branch of modern mathematics, namely, the theory of categories, is wholly dependent on a new concept of transcendental. In the first section of the second book of Logics of Worlds, Badiou sought to establish the fundamental contours of such a concept.
