The present work addresses the contribution of the feminist struggle to the formulation of public policies aimed at combating violence against women, as well as analyzing the current situation of domestic violence in the city of Aracaju/SE. Historical-dialectical materialism was adopted as a method for allowing an understanding of the totality that surrounds the object of study in conjunction with the feminist theoretical strand. The article was built from an exploratory research with a bibliographic and documentary basis, it aimed to reflect the contributions of the feminist movement to public policies aimed at the protection of women and to analyze the policy of fighting domestic violence in the municipality of Aracaju/SE, highlighting their ways of coping through the Coordination of Public Policies for Women. It was possible to verify that the struggle was and is fundamental for the construction of policies to combat violence against women and that in the municipality of Aracaju/SE domestic violence has a higher rate of notifications in the most vulnerable neighborhoods, but this does not mean that the neighborhoods of better social conditions are exempt from notifications. The Coordination of Public Policies for Women in the municipality of Aracaju plays an important role in combating violence against women and has experienced challenges related to the lack of infrastructure at the institution and the precariousness of work, which makes it impossible to materialize and consolidate the Coordination of Public Policies for Women.
